FANTASTIC FALL WREATH MADE FROM MY BACKYARD!
I have had this idea in my head for a few weeks now, but never had the time to devote to it. Finally, bit by bit it has been created. I knew that I wanted a natural looking wreath and have loved the look of a square wreath for a different twist on the traditional. I have plenty of bushes and trees in my backyard, so I gleaned the twigs for the base of my wreath from one particular over grown Lilac bush. (I was so excited about finally getting to this project, I didn't take too many pictures of the actual creating)
This is the bunch I started with. Wearing gloves, I stripped the stems of their leaves and found the straightest ones that were the length that I wanted. (I am someone who HATES to measure, so I took two sticks to my door on broke one off for the long side and one for the short side as I eyeballed it. worked for me!)
I took the finished, naked stems to my front walkway with the front door in view so I could easily measure and picture what I wanted to happen. Then I just started to lay the sticks where I thought they would work. I did use green stems because they are more pliable and will not break like a dead twig.
After laying them out like I liked I took twine and quickly tied the 4 corners together. (my husband was watching me and decided to take pictures. As an expert knot tie-er I knew it was driving him crazy watching my haphazard lashing skills. I just like to get it done!)
After I had everything stable I went back and tied each corner nice, tight and pretty. I then trimmed any stems that were too long and didn't look just right. (actually I asked my husband to use his muscles to do that, our clippers aren't that sharp and it needed his strength to make a good cut)What I failed to take a picture of was adding some "fake" leaves and acorns to fill it out and make it look ready for fall. Then in the bottom left hand corner I added some rosettes I made of burlap. When I hung it back up the wreath titled to the rosette side. I didn't count on the extra weight they would add. I quickly thought "what could I use that is free, small and quick?" The answer, one of the small rocks my son has collected. It is now hot glued on the back of the lower right hand corner and balanced it perfectly.
My favorite part is the witch silhouette. My favorite thing to be on Halloween when I was growing up was a Witch. Now I like, all cute, fun, witches. Not mean old nasty witches. So since I like cute witches, naturally I turned to myself as inspiration for my with silhouette, (ha ha). I had my daughter take this picture and then I printed it out on card stock and took a thin sharpie marker and outlined where I wanted to cut to make it easier to see. I then cut it out and then trace around it on some black construction paper and cut that out. I then modpodged it onto an oval wood plaque painted black that I picked up at Hobby Lobby for $1.47. First I modpodged on some fall scrapbook paper and then the witch. I then glued a nice black ribbon to the back (that of course I eye-balled the length of) and hung it up. I absolutely LOVE the way it turned out. It has the perfect flavor of fall and Halloween for me.
(I didn't attache the silhouette to the wreath because I think I will change it out with something of a thanksgiving nature after the 31st. That way I can use this lovely wreath a good long time.)

I too hate to measure, it never comes out right anyway, so I'm always eyeballing. It usually comes out nicer, fo some reason. I love your wreath, I love that it isn't the typical circular kind. It's so unique.
super clever way to make that frame - and I really love the silhouette you used too!!
